Welcome
We are really excited that you are here to check us out. We have worked tirelessly to create a program worthy of your children and are really excited to get started.
We are a nature based enrichment center that teaches learners with fact based methods. We encourage hands on learning in an outdoor setting on our 10 acre farm.
Our vision is really a passion to give kids what they deserve.
Children are not a distraction from important work, they are the most important work - C.S. Lewis
We want to offer a different option. We have so many natural wonders that will get your kids engaged and eager to learn. It is a back-to-basics approach to let them live it to learn it. That way everything they learn applies to life. They will have hands-on projects in the garden and taught farm to table lessons. When in the orchard, they can learn birds and insects. The chickens will supply an opportunity to gather eggs to sort, count and learn to sell. They will be included in the wonders of an observation hike that leads to a forest reading spot. And they will be encouraged to get dirty in the excavation area or while writing their letters in the dirt. And who doesn't want to make pinecone soup in the mud kitchen?! As they play, they are learning constantly, but don't even know it.
Play is the highest form of research - Albert Einstein
The oak supplies us with a multitude of acorns for manipulatives used in sorting, math and art. We can observe tadpoles in the two mini ponds learning the wonders of the life cycle. And hopefully they love moles because there is definitely no shortage.
Caring for the farm animals is the most natural way for them to strengthen their knowledge of responsibility and compassion.
In this amazing state we have seasons that make for incredible lessons. The science of weather, true beauty to capture in art, collecting data on plant life....I could go on forever. The numerous landscapes and wildlife we are so lucky to have and can study, right here in abundance. The wonders of nature naturally teach patience and requires the use of longer attention spans.
The academics are still the priority but the teaching method is different.
Not all classrooms have four walls
We will also be focusing on critical thinking (not what to think; how to think), self-discipline, problem solving, communication, respect, responsibility/accountability, compromise and leadership.
They will be expected to use common sense balanced with common courtesy and shown how to apply logic. They will know how to research, validate and verify information. This may sound advanced for little ones, but all things are age appropriate. Kids too often are held back by low expectations. Not here.
We will be a screen free facility. We understand the need for technology and its importance, but your kids will have ample opportunities outside the Focus Learning day to access it.
Kids don't remember their best day of television
Have a great time looking through our available programs and we hope to see you soon when you join us at Focus Learning!
